How to Select Top Hammer Drill Rods
Top hammer drill rods carry impact energy, rotation and feed force from the rock drill through the drill string to the bit. This collection is the commercial entry point for PerfoMax’s current R32, T38, T45 and T51 threaded rod references. Use it to select the correct product page and prepare a complete inquiry. Thread name alone does not prove that a rod matches a shank adapter, coupling, bit or existing drill string, so the final supply must follow the confirmed interfaces and written quotation.

Confirm the rod architecture
- End arrangement: state whether the required rod is male–male, male–female or another controlled configuration. Do not infer it from the thread family.
- Rod body: provide the required body profile and outside dimensions, or send the existing rod drawing and clear measurements.
- Length: give the working length and the measurement basis. Similar nominal descriptions can refer to different overall or effective lengths.
- Flushing passage: confirm the flushing method and internal passage requirement for the complete drill string.
- Replacement evidence: send markings and clear photos of both ends, the body and all mating components when replacing an existing rod.
Match the complete top hammer drill string
- Rock drill and shank adapter: identify the rig, drifter and complete shank-adapter reference.
- Drill rod: confirm thread, end arrangement, body profile and length.
- Coupling: verify the matching thread and coupling design where a separate coupling is used. See the R32 coupling sleeve page for the current R32 reference.
- Bit: confirm the mating thread, target diameter, face, buttons and flushing arrangement. Browse drill bits without assuming that any thread label alone confirms the full match.
- Application: provide hole diameter and depth, rock condition, drilling method and the current failure or wear issue if applicable.

Frequently asked questions
Are R32, T38, T45 and T51 drill rods interchangeable?
No. They are different thread references, and a complete match also depends on the shank adapter, rod architecture, coupling, bit and operating system.
Is an extension rod the same as an MF rod?
Not automatically. “Extension rod” describes how rods extend a drill string, while the end arrangement still needs to be confirmed. State whether the required product is male–male, male–female or another specified form.
Can I order from thread and length only?
Those two fields are not enough for a reliable replacement. Confirm the end arrangement, body profile, mating components and measurement basis, or provide an approved drawing.
Are the coupling and bit included with the rod?
Only when the written quotation lists them. Treat the rod, coupling, shank adapter and bit as separate supply items unless a complete package is explicitly confirmed.
