How to Select Low-Pressure DTH Hammers

Down-the-hole hammers place the impact mechanism behind the bit and use compressed air for impact and cuttings removal. This collection is the commercial entry point for PerfoMax’s current CIR50, CIR65, CIR76, CIR90, CIR110 and CIR130 low-pressure DTH hammer references. Use the model links as a starting point, then confirm the exact bit interface, top-sub and drill-pipe connection, available air and target hole before quotation. A similar model name is not proof that two suppliers’ parts are interchangeable.

Four inputs control the match

  1. Bit interface: confirm the exact shank geometry and all critical dimensions. Browse the current DTH Drill Bits only after the hammer identity is known.

  3. Working air: provide pressure and delivered airflow at the rig, compressor model and operating condition. Compressor power or a broad pressure label alone is not enough.
  4. Hole and rock: state target hole diameter and depth, rock condition, drilling application and the number of hammers expected to operate.

New project and replacement inquiries need different evidence

For a new drilling project

Send the rig and compressor information, hole target, rock condition, required pipe connection, preferred supply scope and operating environment. PerfoMax can then narrow the hammer, bit and pipe combination that requires technical confirmation.

For replacement or spare parts

Send the full nameplate, model and manufacturer, photos of the complete hammer and both connections, the existing bit shank, critical measurements and any approved drawings. If the request follows a failure, include the damaged parts, service history and operating symptoms. Do not approve a replacement from the family name alone.

Compressor, lubrication and air-line inputs

  • State pressure and delivered airflow at the rig under the expected operating load.
  • Provide the number of tools operating at the same time and any other air consumers on the line.
  • Confirm hose and pipe sizes, lengths, connections, restrictions and expected pressure loss.
  • State altitude and ambient conditions when they affect delivered air.
  • Confirm the lubricator arrangement, approved oil and service practice for the selected hammer.

  • New project, replacement hammer or spare-parts requirement.
  • Rig, compressor and current drill-pipe information.
  • Target hole diameter and depth, application and rock condition.
  • Available pressure and delivered airflow, including the measurement basis.
  • Existing hammer and bit identity, markings, photos and drawings when replacing equipment.
  • Top-sub and pipe connection, bit shank and complete requested supply scope.
  • Quantity, destination, inspection documents, packing requirement and delivery window.

Frequently asked questions

Can I select a DTH hammer from hole diameter alone?

No. Hole diameter is one input. The bit interface, top-sub and pipe connection, pressure, airflow, rock and rig must also be checked.

Does the same CIR model name guarantee interchangeability?

No. Names can be used differently by suppliers. Confirm the manufacturer, controlled drawing, interfaces and critical dimensions before substitution.

Is the DTH bit included with the hammer?

Only when the written quotation lists the bit and its exact shank and diameter. The hammer, bit, drill pipe, adapters and spare parts should be treated as separate supply items unless a package is confirmed.

Can compressor power tell me whether the hammer will work?

Not by itself. Use delivered pressure and airflow at the rig after air-line losses and other simultaneous demand, then compare them with the approved requirement for the selected configuration.
