A complete top-hammer drill string package connects the drifter to the rock through a verified shank adapter, rods, couplings and drill bit. The RFQ must define the architecture, hole duty, quantity mix, consumables, inspection and supply boundaries so the quotation represents a usable system rather than a list of individually plausible parts.
Start at the drifter and end at the hole
Provide the rig and drifter model, current shank adapter and any controlled interface references. State the target hole diameter and length range, application, ground condition, drilling method and flushing arrangement. Identify the desired thread family only when verified.
| Package element | RFQ decision | Quantity basis |
|---|---|---|
| Shank adapter | Drifter interface, thread and flushing arrangement | Per active/standby machine plus justified spares |
| Drill rods | Thread, form, body, lengths and flushing | String geometry, active strings and replenishment |
| Couplings | Type and match to selected rod architecture | Joints per string plus approved reserve |
| Drill bits | Thread, diameter, face and flushing configuration | Hole program and controlled consumption plan |
| Thread care | Approved grease and application tools where required | Site procedure and service interval |
| Inspection | Drawings/data, identity, dimensions and traceability | Per purchase specification |
| Packing | Long-item support, thread protection, labels and bundles | Shipment and receiving plan |
Avoid mixed or incomplete quotations
Require every line to show exact description, configuration, quantity and inclusion status. State whether gauges, service tools, samples, manuals and inspection records are included. A quotation that includes rods but omits couplings or the correct shank adapter is not a complete package.
If replacing an installed string, send current component markings and photographs. If changing thread family, rod form, bit range or supplier, treat the change as a controlled system approval rather than a simple replenishment order.
Plan sample, acceptance and replenishment
For a new package, define sample or first-article inspection and a representative field trial. Record the exact component identities and results. Separate the initial installed quantity, commissioning reserve and later replenishment forecast so the first order is not inflated by unverified consumption assumptions.
At receiving, reconcile each bundle and component to the approved matrix. Verify thread protection, visible condition, markings, quantities and required records before issue.
RFQ fields
Send rig/drifter, current or proposed thread system, shank adapter, rod form/body/lengths, coupling type, bit diameter/configuration, hole program, flushing, active strings, quantity assumptions, sample/inspection/traceability requirements, packing, destination and delivery stages. Browse Drill Rods and Drill Bits, then submit the package through Request a Quote.
FAQ
Does a drill-string package always include the shank adapter and bit?
Not automatically. The quotation must itemize every included and excluded component.
Can quantities be based only on monthly drilling metres?
No. Installed string geometry, simultaneous machines, inspection stock, failure history and replenishment time also matter.
